Thoughts on the future of the discipline

Dr. Acker believes that the move to intersectionality is critical. She would like to see more research that connects gender, race , ethnicity, and class. She is somewhat conflicted on this because she believes that gender does sometimes need to be addressed separately, but she feels that overall this move is important. Acker believes that just focusing on upper-class women, such as those in managerial jobs, accepts structures of inequality. She also believes that class processes are changing all the time, which makes new analysis especially important.
